Car Sales Are Worst Since 93 Americans felt too broke to buy new cars and trucks last month, making September the first month with total sales below a million since February 1993.
A drumbeat of bad economic news drove a sales decline for every major automaker as total light vehicle sales tumbled to 964,873, down 26.6% compared with September 2007, sales tracker Autodata reported Wednesday.

HSE Campaign Targets Falls From Vehicles The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched a campaign to highlight the dangers of falls from vehicles a type of injury that is estimated to cost the economy some 35m a year.
Last year, more than 1,600 employees were injured and four were killed by falling from vehicles, and falls from vehicles are the second most common vehicle related accident in the workplace, the HSE said.

Stalled Auto Market A Boon For Parts Repair According to researcher R.L. Polk & Co., the median age of passenger cars hit a record last year of 9.4 years, breaking the prior high of 9.2 years in 2007 and 2006. The median age for all trucks jumped to 7.6 years from 7.3 years in 2007.
